The Funsters
THE Funsters are Rock’n’Soul Horn Band that puts the “fun” into the music...& the people on the dance
floor! It’s why they’re still entertaining crowds at concerts and events after decades of performing
together!!!
Not only is this a collective of great musicians who share a pride in each other’s musical talents, but their
spirit and camaraderie on stage is what captivates a Funsters audience...and enables this band to deliver
their catalogue of classic tunes as only The Funsters can!
The Lowdown on Funsters 2.0
The secret to the longevity and success of this “band of brothers” called The Funsters is the deep-
rooted, near infinite connection between the members...some going back to childhood.
With no agenda or goal – this group coalesced over time. Initially as a boy’s night out band with random,
occasional get togethers. Then, to the great amazement of all players...this “fall together” band became
a very popular and in demand 10-piece Rock ’n’ Soul Horn Band!
Never taking their successes too seriously, the band found themselves joined on stage by a female
vocalist at a preeminent annual event. Every year, the role of vocalist Nancy Curry expanded until in
2023, she joined The Funsters on stage for the entire evening's performance. It just felt so right for all
parties concerned...the invitation was made...& 2024 began with Nancy Curry becoming the newest
addition to The Funsters!
Current Band: Roster:
Sherman Ward: Lead Vocals, MC
Nancy Curry: Lead Vocals, Den Mother
Ed Shockley: Drums, Lead Vocals
Greg Mack: Guitar, Vocals
Keith Mack: Guitar, Vocals
Dickie Messick: Bass
Tom Houska: Keyboards
Funsters Horn Section:
Ken Tonge: Sax,Aerophone, Guitar, Vocals
Jon Fletcher: Trumpet, Vocals
Matt Casarino: Sax, Vocals
What about the music? Well, it can be anything from Frank Sinatra to The Rolling Stones, The Beatles to Al Green. With a three-piece horn section, four lead vocalists and a guitarist that has toured the world with Joe Cocker, Scandal and Paul Young (to name a few), it is uncommon for any band to match the musical breadth of The Funsters. In fact, with a song list so vast, the members find themselves disappointed that they can't "play them all" at every performance. With this kind of flexibility, The Funsters can customize a night of music that will be perfect for any event.
The Funsters are indeed made up of lifelong friends. Besides a set of brothers, some members have known each other since childhood and played together in "first bands" over 30 years ago. Other members met and played in bands during their college years and have continued playing together for the last 20-25 years.
The Funsters are: Jon Fletcher - trumpet/vocals, Tom Houska - keyboards, Greg Mack - guitar, Keith Mack - guitar, Dickie Messick - bass, Ed Shockley - drums/vocals, Ken Tonge - sax/vocals, Sherman Ward - vocals, Grier White - sax/vocals, Martin LeMaire - sound engineer.
