The Four Bridges String Quartet @ WPC
Come join us for an evening of beautiful music by The Four Bridges String Quartet at 2502 Fairmount Pike on August 30, 2025 at 6:30 PM (EST).
Dvořák’s "American" String QuartetIn the summer of 1893, while staying in a quiet town in Iowa, Antonín Dvořák wrote this vibrant and melodic string quartet in just a couple of weeks. Inspired by the sounds of America—its wide-open spaces, folk rhythms, and spirituals—he created a work full of charm, energy, and heartfelt lyricism. It’s not an American folk song collection, but rather a European composer’s joyful response to the musical voices he encountered in a new world.
The Danish String Quartet Folk Tunes collection, blends traditional Scandinavian folk music with contemporary classical techniques. Drawing on the rich musical heritage of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland, the quartet infuses folk rhythms, modal melodies, and dramatic contrasts into their compositions. This reinterpretation brings a fresh perspective to Nordic music, merging past and present in a vibrant and evocative sound. Through their expressive performance, the Danish String Quartet reimagines the cultural and musical traditions of the North for today’s audience.
