About this Event
The lucky winner will receive a publishing contract from independent comics publisher SelfMadeHero, and a £500 cash prize sponsored by The bks Agency. The 2025 First Graphic Novel Award has been generously supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
Judges Karrie Fransman, Emma Hayley, Shazleen Khan, Janette Parris and Oscar Zarate will share their thoughts about the six shortlisted entries, while the entrants themselves will answer questions from host Alex Fitch. With special guests James Spackman from The bks Agency and Waterstones’ own Nessa Urquhart, the audience will hear about the vital part that comics and graphic novels have to play in the 2026 National Year of Reading!
