The Family Tea
An Original Stage Play
Written, Produced & Directed by Nadia Matthews-Childres
Synopsis
At an exclusive mountain retreat, billionaire tea mogul Kofi invites his family to celebrate two milestones: the continued success of his multimillion-dollar wellness empire and a highly anticipated vow renewal with his devoted wife, Monique.
The weekend promises elegance — curated tea ceremonies, champagne toasts, and a carefully orchestrated atmosphere of “healing.”
But beneath the silk robes and smiling photographs, resentment simmers.
When uninvited guests, hidden affairs, financial secrets, and long-buried betrayals begin to surface, the retreat spirals into psychological warfare. Conversations turn into interrogations. Toasts turn into threats. And every family member has something to lose.
Then — a shocking incident changes everything.
As panic spreads and alliances shift, the question is no longer who told the truth… but who is willing to rewrite it.
Blending razor-sharp dialogue, dark humor, emotional suspense, and unexpected twists, The Family Tea is a gripping theatrical experience where power, pride, and perception collide — and where the most dangerous brew isn’t in the teacup.
It’s at the table.

🎭 Character Breakdown
The Family Tea
Kofi Montclair (Late 40s–50s)
A powerful tea mogul and self-made businessman with a commanding presence. Image-driven and controlling, Kofi is determined to maintain perfection at all costs.
Alara Montclair (Late 30s–40s)
Kofi’s elegant and devoted wife. Graceful and composed, Alara has long prioritized her marriage over herself — but beneath her calm exterior, something is shifting.
Milk (18–25)
Quiet, observant, and emotionally complex. Often overlooked, Milk sees more than others realize and struggles with feeling unheard in a family full of strong personalities.
Honey (40s–50s)
A loyal family confidante with a nurturing presence. Warm and intuitive, Honey carries a quiet awareness of the family’s dynamics and unspoken truths.
Valencia “Velvet” James (30s–40s)
Stylish, confident, and unapologetic. Kofi’s mistress, known as “Velvet,” enters the retreat expecting one experience — and finds herself in another.
Chef Lorenzo (30s–40s)
The private chef for the retreat. Charismatic and grounded, he brings a calming energy — and an unexpected connection that disrupts the balance.
Earl (50s–60s)
A friendly and talkative guest celebrating a milestone anniversary. Brings humor and lightness, often saying more than he intends.
Mae Belle (50s–60s)
Earl’s warm and observant wife. Sweet with a sharp edge, she enjoys conversation — especially when it reveals more than it should.
The Butler (40s–60s)
Professional, composed, and ever-present. A quiet observer who moves seamlessly through the chaos while noticing everything.
You’re building something theatrical now. And Montclair fits the stage.
🎭 Ensemble Roles
The Family Tea
1. The PR Manager (30s–40s)
Sharp, fast-talking, and always “on.” Focused on protecting the Montclair brand and controlling the narrative — no matter what’s happening behind the scenes.
2. The Family Attorney (40s–60s)
Calm, strategic, and observant. Speaks with precision and only when necessary. Holds critical knowledge about the family’s finances and legal affairs.
3. The Personal Assistant (20s–30s)
Overworked and hyper-aware. Manages schedules, guests, and last-minute chaos. Often caught in the middle of tension between Kofi and everyone else.
4. The Wellness Director (30s–50s)
Leads the retreat’s tea ceremonies and healing sessions. Peaceful on the surface, but increasingly uncomfortable as the environment turns volatile.
5. The Influencer Guest (20s–30s)
Charming, image-focused, and always documenting. Obsessed with capturing the “perfect moment,” even as things start to fall apart.
6. The Security Lead (30s–50s)
Serious, alert, and no-nonsense. Responsible for maintaining order and safety at the retreat. Senses when things are shifting before others do.
7. The Housekeeper (30s–50s)
Quiet but observant. Moves through the space unnoticed, overhearing conversations and witnessing moments others miss.
8. The Bartender / Server (20s–40s)
Engaging and social. Present during key gathering moments, subtly fueling conversations and tensions as drinks are poured.
