The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center will host its 14th annual Viva México celebration on Thursday, September 16th (virtual) & Saturday, September 18th (in-person) from 5-10pm. Your ticket purchase will go towards the in-person date!
This annual event showcases visual art, dance, and musical performances that explore Mexico’s history through cultural art traditions.
This year's lineup:
Mariachi Las Coronelas: Like nothing you've ever seen. It is an eleven-member, beautiful, all-female ensemble that performs a high-energy entertaining show from beginning to end. A mix of songs in English and Spanish that cater to every single person in the audience. From love songs, to dance songs to the Devil Went Down To Georgia, Las Coronelas are changing the way people perceive Mariachi Genre. Created and directed by Vanessa del Fierro, beauty, talent, high-energy and plenty of audience interaction are qualities that Las Coronelas bring. Don't let the dresses and high heels fool you, when these ladies put on a show, they truly make it a magical event and will leave the audience asking for more. Guaranteed to be something you've never seen and will definitely be an experience you will never forget!
Sunny Sauceda y Todo Eso: Two-time GRAMMY winner Sunny Sauceda y Todo Eso performing Tejano, Conjunto, Tex-Mex, Regional Mexican, Country and Rock. Entertaining diverse audiences with new and old sounds, high energized stage presence and stellar musicianship.
Conjunto Los Pinkys: A Texas-style dance band from Austin, Texas that plays down-home conjunto music.
Dubbed by many as the Buena Vista Social Club of Austin's conjunto music scene, Conjunto Los Pinkys, like the music they create, are a multi-generational, cosmic hybrid of American, European, Mexican, Texan and Tejano musical cultures. The music includes a variety of traditional influences from the Texas-German brass melodies, Czech polka, Polish mazurka and oberek, Spanish pasodobles and poetic verses, plus the flavors of Northern Mexico norteno music, Colombian cumbia and popular American music. With a heavy mix of danceable, polka-beat rancheras, the older musical forms, like classic redovas, valses, shotis (shottische) are also played along side romantic boleros, tropical cumbias and whirling, 6/8 time huapangos.
Güateque Son: Güateque Son is a new Son Jarocho musical project that specializes in regional folk music from the state of Veracruz, Mexico with a Tejano edge based in Austin, Texas! Through romantic melodies and passionate ensembles, they bring to Austin a unique flare of Mexican music that’s not your typical mariachi. Also known as “Música de las cuerdas” or “string music” this musical style includes coastal veracruzano.
Danza Azteca Guadalupana: Grupo con tradiciones desde San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato! Actualmente localizados en Austin, TX! Group with traditions from San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato! Currently located in Austin, TX!
Round Rock Ballet Folklorico: The Round Rock Ballet Folklorico was founded by Yolanda Sanchez in 1988. Yolanda Sanchez has been an educator for over 20 years and has been an instrumental influence in the development of many programs throughout the city. She founded the organization to offer everyone an opportunity that she wasn't provided with when growing up. By strongly believing in what she does, she has been able to provide many dancers an opportunity to give back to their community through expressing themselves through dance.
DJ Gracie Chavez: DJ Gracie Chavez is an ambassador for the Texas music scene. She's doin it real big (DIRB!) pushing the crossover of music genres, playing a spectrum of sounds and winning folks over. And this mami is the perfect act with a pedigree heavy enough to handle any party.
A veteran DJ of the Lone Star State, she co-founded and leads up Bombón, one of the region's hottest tropical bass crews and record label, Bombón Music. Her sharp skills and taste-making selections have also earned her Houston’s Best DJ (2016) title and influential out-of-town bookings making her a top choice for events nationwide

Salwa Yordi (Farandula Texas): Salwa founded Farandula Texas in 2013 as one of the first Spanish-speaking entertainment reporters in Austin. Salwa has covered nationwide awards such as the Latin Grammy Awards, People en Español, Latin Billboards amongst others. She was able to build a reputation of her own in Austin, which opened new opportunities. Both El Mundo Newspaper and Telemundo Austin recruited her to cover local entertainment and events. She is one of the voices of El Mundo Newspaper radio show on Thursdays and the happy entertainment face of Telemundo Austin Friday nights.
