PROGRAMME
Within our center’s broader scope on inclusion & diversity, in 2026 we focus on EU environmental politics and the climate crisis. Do there need to be safeguards to ensure appropriate recognition of intersectional needs of particularly vulnerable and exposed populations such as socio-economic, ethnic or social minorities? It is widely recognized that domestically and internationally underrepresented populations do not receive the same amount of support for climate mitigation, even though their carbon footprint tends to be smaller. How can climate crisis adaptation and mitigation occur in an environmentally and socially just manner? And how can the EU and its partners design and implement sustainability policies that redress some of these inequalities towards a greener future in the face of competing priorities and interests? These questions and issues will be addressed in a comparative transatlantic, as well as local and global perspective.
The conference will start with a keynote speaker on March 9.
On March 10, the conference will consists of three panels and a roundtable with Consuls General, high-level speakers, academics, and diplomats.
This two-day conference is free and open to FIU students and the public.
