An interactive workshop for creatives, solopreneurs, and anyone with hard-to-explain work.

Walk away with a clear, confident answer to everyone’s favorite question: “So, what do you do?” Plus, language you can use in bios, networking, and everyday conversations.

You know that moment when someone asks what you do, and your brain suddenly gallops in ten different directions? This workshop is for people who do meaningful, nuanced, or creative work and want a clearer, more confident way to introduce themselves. You’ll learn how to turn a boring question into an answer people will actually remember.

If you've ever described your work as "kind of hard to explain…" or "I do a few different things…" this workshop is for you.

So many creatives, solopreneurs, facilitators, and consultants do work that doesn't fit neatly into a job title. And when someone asks about it, we either oversimplify, over-explain, or lose the thread entirely. It's not because you're unclear. It's because abstract work doesn't like boxes.

Jessica Vernon is a speaker coach for TEDxCharleston and curator for CreativeMornings Charleston. In this hands-on afternoon workshop, she'll teach you how to apply simple storytelling techniques to craft an elevated elevator pitch that feels natural, conversational, and true to the depth of what you do. You'll learn why stories make you memorable and trustworthy, how to hook attention quickly, and leave people curious to learn more.

Then you'll put it into practice: writing, testing, and refining your pitch with the group, and receiving feedback that you can incorporate in real time.

You'll leave with three versions of your pitch that you can use from networking events to dinner parties to your professional bio.

Optional happy hour to follow, so you can test your new introduction in the real world!

Please park on the Magnolia Road side of The Schoolhouse building and enter through the double doors labeled “Events.” Once inside, turn left and you’ll find Evolve Academy in Suite 21.

As a center for adult personal and professional development, many of our classes take place in the evenings and on weekends. If you happen to arrive late and find the exterior doors locked, simply knock gently on the window to the left of the doors—this is the Evolve classroom window. (Arriving a few minutes early is the smoothest way in.)

Evolve is a serene, cozy space designed with nervous-system comfort in mind. You’ll find calm lighting, soft rugs and cushions, warm herbal tea, and neutral tones—intentionally curated to help you feel safe, grounded, and cared for. All are welcome. We love all of our neurodivergent friends, all of our friends of various genders, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, physical challenges, and more. There is a handicap accessible ramp to enter the building. This is a safe space for you.

Many of our classes are taught with our students seated on comfy cushions on the ground. If you need or would like a chair, we are happy to accommodate you.
