About this Event
Film editor Kenji Yamamoto needed a place to stay in Silicon Valley because the commute was too much. He found it: a hacker house, 8 bunks to a room, $50/night, in the heart of Palo Alto, where he met fascinating entrepreneurs who came from all over the world, not to work for high-tech companies, but to make their own inventions and apps happen. Although he had never dared make his own film, Kenji took the plunge and started sleeping at the house in a bunkbed with a camera on his pillow. He soon discovered that these entrepreneurs’ ups and downs were the same as his and became the film’s fourth character, joining them in the Sisyphean struggles of self-doubt, financial ruin and marital conflict.
At first, Kenji thought his characters’ failures or successes would be the film’s story, but he discovered that it was about something deeper: what happens when dreams and reality collide.
Please join us for pizza, then step into the screening room and take part in the LAST work-in-progress screening before Kenji finishes THE DREAMERS AND I. Kenji and Nancy are looking for an audience who know little about the project or about them. They hope that while watching this 78-minute-long film, you’ll laugh sometimes and wipe away tears at other times. When the lights come up, they’ll ask you to answer a short, anonymous questionnaire with your comments about the story, the characters, what you liked and disliked. Helping independent filmmakers out this way is a great tradition in the San Francisco independent film community. Kenji and Nancy will be forever grateful for your support!
