DNDF was established in 2003 after the tragic loss of Lloyd Christopher Skeen to a sudden cardiac arrhythmia event. While pursuing his dream of becoming a pilot, Lloyd and his family struggled financially. His experience inspired his wish to one day, start a scholarship that would help future students overcome the types of challenges he had faced on his way to graduate from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1999. Though his dream of flight was cut short, his family and close friends were determined to honour his generous spirit by creating the foundation he had wished to create.
The Foundation has come a long way since 2003 when it began with a single $500 scholarship. This year alone, our organization will reward over $30,000 in scholarships to more than 20 hard-working post-secondary students, for a total of over $250,000 awarded since its inception.
If you are unable to attend this year's function, we encourage you to donate to our scholarship program.
