About this Event
Written in 1666 by France’s greatest comedic writer, The Doctor in Spite of Himself follows the antics of Sganarelle, a ne’er-do-well woodcutter, who winds up impersonating a doctor. He dupes the pretentious wealthy Geronte while simultaneously reuniting his daughter with her forbidden lover. This slapstick farce satires bourgeois pretentiousness and the medical profession. Always controversial, Moliere continues to be extremely popular today. France’s National Theatre is referred to as the House of Moliere.
