The Diet Drug Dilemma A fat positive conversation between Sarah Lloyd and Jeanette Thompson-Wessen, Founder of Anti-Diet World.
About this Event

Wednesday 29 October
18:00-20:00

A fat positive conversation between Sarah Lloyd (Fourth Wall Folkestone Director) and Jeanette Thompson-Wessen (Founder of Anti-Diet World).

The societal pressure to shrink is by no means a new concept, but with the prevalence of diet drugs, we are bombarded by it more so than ever both online and in real life.

Jeannette and Sarah will share openly their thoughts and feelings around the diet drug dilemma. Neither speakers are medical experts, but will be coming from a place of lived experience as self identifying fat folk who have chosen not to take these drugs. The conversation will come from a place of compassion and curiosity that explores the nuances of the topic. The speakers will be acknowledging why other fat people have chosen to take these drugs whilst questioning how this decision may impact other fat folk like themselves, the Health at Every Size campaign and fat bias.

The event aims to open up a conversation amongst all the division, hurt and anger this topic is stirring up.

Please note that this is a fat positive conversation. The word "fat" is a neutral descriptive term and although discussions of weight loss and gain will be part of this topic, we are not talking about intentional weight loss as something to be encouraged.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Jeanette Thompson-Wessen is a Nutritionist, educator, and founder of Anti-Diet World, a membership community for people who want to live free from diet culture. She specialises in ADHD and eating, supporting ADHDers to build flexible, shame-free relationships with food. Her work blends fat liberation, intuitive eating, and practical tools to make nourishment more accessible and joyful.

Sarah Lloyd is an artist, researcher and Director of Fourth Wall Folkestone. She is a neurodivergent, self identifying fat woman, with a long term (chronic) invisible condition who encourages conversations about women's health, mental health and what it looks like to be anti-diet culture.
