About this Event
The Departure: An Opening Prayer – Batizado Festival
Date: September 28, 2024
Location: South Dallas Cultural Center
Celebrate the Afro-Brazilian Martial Art graduation protecting rites and rights with Rites Now and Os Malandros. This ceremony is an effort to help preserve longstanding traditions of protecting Rights and Rites through the arts. Go on a journey through the history of resistance through the art of Malicia, Capoeira, and the sacred rite of Batizado. Experience and learn about the tradition of this Afro-Latino rite of passage as long-time initiates become full members of the Capoeira community under the guidance of 5 Brazilian Maestres. Finish the day by breaking bread with the initiates and Maestres as you embrace the cultural richness of this community.
This event is part of Dallas’ Cultural Week of Action - a collaboration between South Dallas Parent Coalition & Iv Amenti sponsored by Race Forward. To learn more about this event and other events like this please visit ritesnow.org or email [email protected]
