Scotland is synonymous with Whisky, and there’s no venue more authentically Scottish than the labyrinthine vaults of Marlin’s Wynd. These vaults, which make up the sub-structure of Edinburgh’s South Bridge, were constructed in 1788, and originally used for business storage / workshops. But, by the turn of the century, the vaults had become a renowned red light district with countless brothels and pubs operating within the abandoned complex, as well as extensive whisky storage / illegal distilleries. Burke and Hare, the infamous serial killers who sold corpses to medical schools, are rumoured to have hunted for victims in the Edinburgh Vaults. Eventually the vaults were filled in with rubble and lay forgotten in Edinburgh History until a former Scottish Rugby Internationalist and owner of the venues discovered and excavated these vaults in the mid 90's.
The Dalmore is just as synonymous with Whisky. For almost 200 years, The Dalmore has been led by an unbroken chain of visionary whisky makers, with a relentless focus on realising the full potential of their single malt.
From the Dalmore:
We shine, not burn. Our whisky making artistry shines. In a word of possibility, we are virtuosos, always in pursuit of new perspectives. The Dalmore is a masterpiece, made with a relentless focus on realising the full potential of single malt.
The 12-point stag which proudly adorns each bottle of The Dalmore was bestowed upon the first chieftain of Clan Mackenzie by King Alexander III of Scotland in 1263. The stag became the whisky’s Emblem when descendants of the clan took over the distillery in 1867.
Please note that due to its location and historic nature, Marlin's Wynd is not wheelchair accessible.
