Join us for our next session on Thursday, 10/2 at 7:00pm. “Microplastics for the Masses - What Everyday Folks Need to Know About These Tiny Particles” - hosted by Rachel Zajac-Fay, Senior Scientist and Environmental Consultant
Many people are familiar with the term microplastics, likely through scary sounding headlines. While these tiny plastic particles have been detected across the world in water, soils, and animal tissues, there is still much to be learned about this “emerging contaminant” and the actual health implications. This session will cover microplastics 101 - what are they, where do they come from, and how do they get into the environment, as well as information on potential toxicity to humans and animals. We’ll also talk about regulations and why it can take so long for governments to regulate new emerging contaminants. Rachel specializes in ecotoxicology, risk assessment, hazardous waste site cleanup, and emerging contaminants; she also leads her company’s microplastics practice.
