The Crystal Ship are Melbourne’s indie/psych/raga/rock band chef d'œuvre, comprised of Anant Caprihan (Vocals), Miles Rothe (Guitar), Nic Durant (Bass) and Ned Fillingham (Drums). Like a psychedelic fever dream, they capriciously stumble between moments of mystical, Carnatic, ceremonial wistfulness to raucous, abandon moments or triumphant incorrigibility. On their journey towards an inevitable zenith, The Crystal Ship are currently hurtling through their Genesis phase like a wayward friend seeking neither forgiveness nor permission.
Alchemically combining their respective influences of Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, and The Beatles, they sound like a potion of equal parts nostalgic mythical rock and future cosmic psychedelia all at once. Anant’s vocal stylings sound like the lovechild of Jim Morrison and Jeff Buckley. He seamlessly weaves together intricate nuanced melodies, guttural primal calls, and haunting Hindi raga musings to conjure a focal point of spellbinding intrigue. Miles on guitar creates a soundscape of vast proportions effortlessly shifting between lightning-fast riffs to wailing lead lines.
Nic on bass is a symphony unto himself of complex notations. He seamlessly intertwines his whole own bass dimension into the fabric of the band. Ned on drums turns rhythms into melodies as the heartbeat of the band with a style that ranges from intricate tonal pitter-patter to bombastic thunderous recklessness. After their debut performances at their November 2024 residency at Cherry Bar, they went on to sell out their first headline show at The Espy Basement. Stumbling headfirst into 2025 they featured in a national
Dangerfield campaign that culminated with a sold out Revolver show in support of Lifeline Australia, followed by a surprise Punters gig. Now The Crystal Ship’s star continues to ascend ever upward as they return home to Cherry Bar on Thursday, November 27, marking the one-year anniversary of the final night of their legendary 2024 residency.
mou is a singer, songwriter, and producer who turns raw pain into connection and hope. Drawing from experiences with ADHD, substance abuse, and mental health struggles, mou writes with honesty and light.
