About this Event
The Crossing of the Bridge employs beginner-friendly dramatic improvisation and role play. Relying on the practice of Bertolt Brecht’s learning play, the workshop explore different perspectives on the world of work and employment. Arranged to coincide with the 2026 Mayday celebrations and the centenary of the 1926 General Strike, this session of The Crossing of the Bridge creates a space to confront and discuss mainstream narratives and lived experiences of work, productivity, and social responsability in the modern world.
The session will be led by UK-based Italian playwright, poet, and scholar Fran Sani. Fran is an award-winning writer and theatre maker. Over the years, he has led theatre projects in collaboration with educational charities such as Woodcraft Folks, trade unions such as Unite the Union, the General Federation of Trade Unions and the TUC, and universities and colleges across Europe and the UK, as well as Argentina and Canada.
No previous experience is needed to participate, but bear in mind that you will be asked to take part to dramatic improvisations and therefore move around a lot. So, try to wear comforable clothing. The session will run from 2pm to 5:30pm with a 20 minutes break.
After the session, Fran will deliver a lecture on his theatre practice as part of the Leicester Secularist Society event series for the summer. The lecture will start at 6pm and take place in the same venue as the workshop (The lecture is a separate event starting at 6pm. More info to follow. The ticket you are booking now is only for the workshop).
