The Courtfield Cup will be held on March 14th 2026 by invitation of the Vaughan family. It will be held on the Courtfield Estate, Ross on Wye, HR9 6JJ. The race comprises a 5-mile course through the beautiful Wye Valley. It will run much like a “point” out hunting, covering natural jumps and obstacles throughout its length. The idea behind the event is to show our support for the hunting community by offering an opportunity for the reasonably experienced rider to enjoy the challenge of riding against fellow hunting enthusiasts. If you have a hunting-fit horse, that is all you will need to enter and enjoy yourself.
The course runs through open fields and woodland, with over 20 jumps including hedges, walls, Irish banks, water obstacles, gates and traditional post and rail fences. The jumps incorporate natural features and will not appear as “cross-country” style setups. Longer routes around most jumps are available, as you might find out hunting. No jump is obligatory so a competitor could win without having gone over all the jumps. The distance of the course is purposefully long to promote riding strategy over straight line speed.
The field will be comprised of up to 40-riders drawn from family, friends and hunt followers. We will run a ballot system with automatic entry for Masters and hunt servants, should they choose to put their name forward. The competition is a race, with the whole field starting at the same time.
The entry fee is £80 payable upon registration. This will be refunded if you are not successful in the ballot.
The prizes will be presented to the first 3 riders home as follows:
1st Prize £1500
2nd Prize £750
3rd Prize £250
