LA Arts is pleased to host “The Corner,” an evening of community storytelling with a dessert potluck, organized by Community Plate. Join us in the LA Arts Gallery on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7-9pm. Come listen. Come tell! This is a free community event for storytellers and story listeners -- a chance to be in community with diverse people; an opportunity to learn about other people and get a glimpse into others’ lives; and a way to connect to others.
With new story themes announced each month, this is an open call for aspiring and experienced storytellers to step into the spotlight for a few minutes of personal storytelling. The themes at The Corner are always just a starting point, meant to be interpreted broadly to spark your storytelling appetite and get the creative juices flowing!
January’s THEME: “While You Were Gone”
Have you ever gone to the concession stand, and then your team hit a home run? Maybe you leave the living room right before someone tells a hilarious joke, or leave the dinner table for a minute and someone else eats the last piece of pie. Or you come home from vacation and discover any number of horrors. Life isn’t a streaming movie – we can’t hit pause or rewind – in the real world things happen when we’re not there. Do you have a story about sleeping through an exciting moment, or missing out on a big opportunity? You might also tell a story about a near miss that – thank goodness – you weren’t there for. Or turn it around a little further, and maybe there was a time when you were the only person to see something that everyone else missed.
As always the themes at The Corner are just a starting point, an opportunity to take a story in any direction. There’s no right or wrong–you can’t miss. So come to The Corner in January to tell or listen. You won’t want to miss out.
* Some stories may include adult themes and language.
