About this Event
There is a great cultural significance and rich backstory to congregating and eating in the Black community and to be invited to the cookout...is a pretty big deal.
This tour is my way of bringing the cookout, to you! I aim to create an informal social space where you can relax, let their guard down and be unapologetically you while learning about the beauty and significance of the Black history that helped shape Miami. Some things we will highlight:
- Miami's first established Black neighborhood
- The official "coloreds only" recreation site
- The home & history of Miami's first Black millionaire
- The "Harlem of the South"
You are hereby welcomed into the interpersonal fold and embraced through music, traditions, trivia and cuisine.
