Your time is valuable, so we won't waste any of it. Whether you're taking this course for credit or not, exercises will be targeted, efficient, and will honor your questions, experience and expertise.

Your facilitator is educator, therapist, and author Jess Cleeves MAT LCSW.

This course utilizes learning sciences, polyvagal theory, and evidence-based practices to support educators to better self-and co-regulate and design approaches that maximize student achievement while minimizing the potential for unproductive student stress and educator burnout.

Learning Outcomes

By this end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Define and distinguish between burnout, demoralization, and exploitation in a classroom context.

2. Use written communication to iteratively reflect on ideas and experiences, summarize complex ideas, and interact with peers in academic online discussions.

3. Use problem-solving skills to identify growth areas and build interventions in the service of personal intervention plans.

4. Implement strategies in planning, during instruction, and outside of contract hours to achieve a sustainable work-life balance that still prioritizes meaningful support for high expectations for students.

5. Build a foundation for sustainable teacher leadership by understanding the role individual educators can play in developing school cultures and climates.

Teaching and Learning Methods

We will be using a variety of evidence-based methods in this course to promote enduring learning. Methods include the use of readings and written responses, role-playing, small group work, and problem solving individually and as a team.
