The international symposium focuses on the theory, history, and practice of architectural covering materials in Art Nouveau architecture, examining ceramics, cement tiles, terrazzo, metlachi, and related technologies within the concept of the Gesamtkunstwerk.
The conference brings together architectural historians, art historians, architects, engineers, craftsmen, restorers, conservators, researchers, students, and professionals engaged in the study, restoration, and conservation of Art Nouveau heritage.
Thematically, the symposium explores:
the principle of clothing in Art Nouveau architecture
architectural ceramics as embodiments of transition between craftsmanship and industrialisation
ceramic and cement tile manufactories and factories of the period
The symposium is organised by the HNMPCC Museum of Applied Arts Budapest in partnership with the Réseau Art Nouveau Network, within the framework of the Creative Europe project “Art Nouveau as a New EUtopia” (2024–2027).
