Want to learn about the CCC camps and how the boys helped build the park? Patricia “Pat” Adams will be giving a presentation on the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Tuesday, May 19, at 6 p.m. at Anna Porter Public Library.Adams will examine the Civilian Conservation Corps’ role in the infrastructure, conservation policy, and the social history of the 1930s workforce that transformed the Smokies into the Smoky Mountains National Park. Historical photos and videos from the National Park Archives will be shown in the presentation. The event is free to attend, and it will be followed by Q&A.
Patricia “Pat” Adams is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, and a graduate of Carson-Newman College. An amateur genealogist, she has spent decades researching lines Fox, Ogle, McCarter, and Schultz, families rooted deeply in the early settlement of Sevier County, as well as researching Indiana and Mid-West pioneers.
Pat has shared her work with community organizations and libraries. Among her past presentations are Church Registers of Scotland, Journey to Northern Ireland and Footprints of the Patrick Day O’Brien Family, and Footprints of Irish Immigrants in America. She also wrote an essay titled Foodways of Scotland.
