About this Event
Join us for an unforgettable evening of film, food, and environmental action at Manny’s
as we screen the award-winning documentary, The Cigarette Surfboard. This powerful
film exposes one of the most widespread yet overlooked plastic pollutants in our
environment: the cigarette butt.
But this night is more than just a screening; it's a rallying point. Together, we’ll build
momentum to eliminate toxic plastic cigarette filters from San Francisco’s streets and
waterways. With Santa Cruz already passing the groundbreaking legislation we hope to
see in SF, now is the time to act.
Cigarette butts make up nearly one-third of all litter by count and are non-biodegradable
with no health benefits to the smoker. This event is a chance to raise awareness, spark
meaningful dialogue, and push for real legislative change. Let’s protect our oceans and
our city.
We’re proud to welcome an inspiring lineup of changemakers and public officials for a
lively evening of insight and action:
Featured Speakers:
- Senator Scott Wiener
- City Attorney David Chiu
- (Remarks tentatively scheduled by Mayor Lurie)

Kick off the night with a dynamic panel moderated by David Helvarg, renowned
journalist and founder of the Blue Frontier Campaign. Panelists include:

This panel will be recorded for the Rising Tide Podcast.
