As evening falls St Olaves is transformed into a space of music, memory and atmosphere.
The church in the shadows is a unique promenade style performance that explores the rich and layered history of the church through music. Guided by performers, audiences will move through the building, experiencing different moments and stories as they unfold in the spaces where they once lived.
From quiet reflections to powerful musical scenes, the performance draws inspiration from people, events and voices that have shaped the church across generations.
What should I know about access and movement during the event?
This is a promenade-style performance, which means guests will be invited to move around the church and churchyard and may be standing at times. Seating will be available at all performance locations for anyone who needs it—just let a member of the team know.
Some areas of the venue have uneven flooring, and light levels can be low in places. Torches will be available for anyone who would benefit from additional lighting—please ask a volunteer if you need one.
The venue is step-free throughout. Parts of the performance will take place in the churchyard, where there is a paved path. Please note that using this path may mean you are positioned slightly further from the performers at times.
