About this Event
The Chinese Lantern Festival features vibrant performing arts such as dragon dances, which symbolize strength, luck, and the dispelling of misfortune. It also showcases traditional folk performances, adding rhythmic energy to the night. These artistic activities create a festive atmosphere that blends cultural heritage with visual spectacle.
Performed by ArtEast FL-New Star Chinese Performing Troupe, and led by founder and President, Ms. Monica Shang, this beautiful cultural event is for everyone of all ages. The group performs the authentic dances of the main 6 ethnic groups in China; Chinese Singing in solo and choir; traditional major Chinese instruments on stage for more than 2000 years; Taichi, and Dragon dance.
ArtEast FL-New Star Chinese Performing Troupe was founded in 2009 and now it has all kinds of performers with around 50 members. It strives to promote, preserve, and share Chinese culture through the performing arts. By promoting an understanding and appreciation of the arts, it aims to strengthen relationships between local Chinese communities, organizations, and both the United States and China.
The group was founded and led by our President, Ms. Monica Shang, a former TV hostess of the local Chinese language teaching program for Channel 19 of T.E.N. (The Education Network, 2004-2008). She was also the Founding President for CLTA-FL (Chinese Language Teachers’ Association-FL) and a former president for CASEC (Chinese Association of Science, Education and Culture of S. FL). She has been on the Board of several Chinese and American organizations for a couple of decades.
