About the featured artists:

Ahn Hee Strain is an abstract painter basted in Austin, TX. Her previous work as an art therapist and reiki practitioner has sparked her creative journey towards her own healing. Working in the trauma field has allowed Ahn Hee to grasp a better understanding of how to process energy within. Through her own obstacles and experiences, she has begun to use her artwork as a means to process and express emotion to create inner calm and balance within.Influenced by nature, experiences and the rhythmic flow of energy that surrounds her, she hopes to translate movement, recovery and a calming energy that is free and familiar for her viewers. Just as energy shifts and turns, Ahn Hee trusts her creative process to evolve along-side.

Neena Buxani is an Indian-American artist who was raised on the border of Mexico in Brownsville, Texas. She currently resides in Austin, Texas with her husband and two boys. Neena's educational and professional background is diverse. She has a B.S. in Advertising and Speech Communications, M.S. in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin as well as a Gemological Certification from GIA. She has worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor, Jewelry Buyer, Loan Officer, Jewelry Store Owner and General Manager for a Hotel. Her multi-faceted background and multi-cultural upbringing has helped to shape her vision as a self-taught artist.

Tsz Kam was born in colonial Hong Kong in the early 90s and grew up in the post colonial period till their teenage years when they moved to Texas. Kam is interested in studying ornamental and decorative motifs from various cultures and how notions of beauty are transformed through different cultural lenses. Using both the perspectives of an insider and an outsider, Kam reestablishes a sense of belonging through their works.

Umbreen Ahmad is a Muslim-American abstract artist. She grew up in Pakistan and moved to Houston, Texas at the age of ten. At nineteen, a serendipitous decision led her to start painting. In 2002 new beginnings brought her to Austin, where she continued to paint and started a family. After fifteen years of creative expressions through paint and texture, she participated in her first art show during the West Austin Studio Tour and has continued to show in various art exhibitions since then. Umbreen finds inspiration in nature and the grand adventure we call life. The constant reminder that we are a small speck of creation in a vast, beautiful world that comes in many colors is simultaneously humbling and inspiring.

Yasmin Youssef is a mixed media and cyanotype artist. Her use of texture, layers, symbolism, color and mark-making in her mixed media art combine gracefully with her mixes of collage, paint, plaster, faux encaustic, vintage ephemera and gold leaf. Together, these elements elicit a sense of mystery, wonder, and story in the viewer. When the sun is out, Yasmin can often be found creating deep indigo and white cyanotypes. Since the cyanotype process is so dependent on the weather, light conditions, seasons, and timing, there is an unpredictable and mysterious nature to the outcome of each piece that can’t be replicated. Yasmin finds this to be an exciting part of this art form. She enhances her cyanotypes by using combinations of ink, collage, paint, and plants from her garden.

Ziesook You portrays her surroundings and daily life in bold, unaffected video language. Her pieces include the video diary of her family, using time-flowing methods, a documentary film taken in various world travel sites depicting space and time, and 10 Years of Self-Portrait using time compression techniques. She has exhibited in Korea, Australia, Iceland, Taiwan, Hungary, Japan, France, the Netherlands, the UK, and the United States.
