Phosphene Cinema is bringing "The Cassandra Cat," a classic 1963 Czech New Wave film- a surreal fairy tale about a circus and their signature "magic cat" act that throws a repressed community into chaos- to Phoenix for a ONE NIGHT ONLY screening at Overdue PHX on Grand Ave. Co-hosted by Ashley Naftule (who will introduce the film with some context about director Vojtěch Jasný and the Czech New Wave movement as a whole), the screening starts at 6pm. Tickets are $8 and available at the door.If you need some added enticement to see this magical film, this brief Letterboxd review really sums up what makes this film so wonderful:
"This is a movie about how a new-waver cat turns a group of bratty Czech schoolkids into anarchists and I wish there were a hundred more like it."
