The Boyne Valley Camino is a 25km loop walk and it forms part of the Celtic Camino Series.
It goes along the Boyne, through beautiful Townley Hall woods, via two OPW sites of Mellifont Abbey and Oldbridge House, through the village of Tullyallen, along the Boyne Canal, and returns to Drogheda along the stunning Boyneside Trail.

We’re meeting at St Peter’s Church (West Street) at 9am. From here, we’ll walk to Mellifont Abbey and then return to Drogheda.

This is a good way to start your Camino de Santiago experience!
The Cathedral of Santiago has agreed to grant a Compostela certificate to pilgrims who can prove that they have walked the first 25 km in their home country, so they just have to walk 75 km on the English Way from Coruna to Santiago de Compostela to get their certificate.
Participants in the Boyne Valley walk, who accomplish 25 km, will receive their first official stamp in the pilgrim passport on the day, which is valid for up to one year.
Meeting point: St. Peter’s Church, West Street, Drogheda, Co. Louth.
Meeting time: 9.00 am sharp.
Price: We ask for a €20 donation that we give to charity.
What to bring on the day:
• Comfortable walking or hiking shoes
• Plenty of water – don't forget to bring your reusable bottle!
• Snack/lunch
• Sun cream and sunglasses
• Rain gear – waterproof jacket and over-trousers (just in case ... it is Ireland after all!)
How to get there:
Bus: St Peter's Church is just a short 400m walk from Drogheda bus station, which serves a number of routes around county Louth and beyond. The church is also reachable by the D1, D2, D4, and D5 bus routes connecting Drogheda to its suburbs.
Train: Trains to Drogheda depart from Dublin Connolly Station in the city multiple times a day.
Car: As part of Follow the Camino's commitment to a sustainable planet, we ask that people car pool wherever possible when travelling to and from walking activities. There is all day parking in Drogheda for €1 on the Donore Road above the Bus Station (A92 HE14) or in a car park in Trinity St R168 opposite Borzalino’s restaurant (A92 WK38). You can pay via cash or card at the car park ticket machines. Both are less than a 10 minute walk to St Peter’s Church.
