Ahmed og Isra’a venter sitt fjerde barn, men i stedet for glede møter de økonomiske bekymringer forverret av den pågående krigen i Jemen. Ahmed har mistet jobben sin i TV-bransjen og strever som sjåfør i et land i økonomisk krise. De har rett og slett ikke råd til et barn til, men i det dypt religiøse Jemen er det vanskelig å finne en lege som vil utføre en abort. The Burdened er en intim historie om utfordringene familier står overfor under krig.

Ahmed and Isra’a are expecting their fourth child, but instead of joy, they face financial worries worsened by the ongoing war in Yemen. Ahmed has lost his job in the TV industry and struggles to make ends meet as a driver in a country gripped by economic crisis. They simply cannot afford another child, but in deeply religious Yemen, it is difficult to find a doctor willing to perform an abortion. The Burdened is an intimate story about the challenges families face during war.

Arabisk filmfest is an annual festival held in Bergen that showcases internationally recognized and award-winning films from and about the Arab region. We aim to highlight diverse classic and mainstream films that contribute to a more inclusive and representative film culture. Through various genres such as drama, comedy, thrillers, and documentaries, the festival provides a unique insight into a culture and a world that Western audiences often only see through the news.
In addition to the films, the festival offers panel discussions, safe spaces to discuss films, opportunities to savor Arabic music and food together, and a range of experiences meant to engage and inspire attendees and create a sense of community and inclusion.
