The teachings of the Buddha provide a map to inner freedom of mind - but how do we use his teachings in these times? Join us to learn how!
About this Event

TEACHINGS AVAILABLE IN-PERSON AND ON ZOOM

Twenty-six hundred years ago, the young prince Siddhartha Gautama snuck out of his palace and saw firsthand the truth of the suffering of old age, sickness, and death. While most of us prefer to distract ourselves from such subjects, the prince could not shake his awareness of these truths. Unable to ignore them, he set out on a journey to find the source of humanity’s suffering and a method for ending it.

He sought answers for six years before taking a seat beneath the Bodhi tree, where he found the resolution he was seeking. He spent the next forty-five years of his life teaching others that they too possessed the ability to free themselves from suffering.

Our program, presented in English by Khenpo Sangye Trinley, will consist of four evening talks - Monday October. 27 to Thursday October.30 - that detail the basics of Buddhist study and practice. You can attend one, two, three, or all of the talks, scheduled from 7 PM to 8:30 PM each evening.

On Monday evening, Khenpo Sangye will provide an introduction to the Buddha’s teachings, explaining how Buddhism differs from other religions and describing the different ways in which the Buddha taught to reach different types of students.

Then on Tuesday evening, we will look into one particular lineage of Buddhism – the one we practice here at KTC! Khenpo Sangye will provide a teaching on the Dakpo Kagyu lineage prayer, a profound text that lays out the origins of our lineage and concisely describes the means of attaining the ultimate realization.

Finally, on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, Khenpo Sangye will teach about Buddha Nature as discussed in the first chapter of Gampopa’s Jewel Ornament of Liberation. This opening chapter of Gampopa’s great work clearly explains how we possess the same potential for awakening as the Buddha, and how we too can attain enlightenment just like he did.

Please join us for any or all of the programs over the course of the week. We would love to share the blessings of these teachings with you!

In 2001, Khenpo Sangye completed the traditional three-year retreat at Palpung Sherabling retreat center under the guidance of Kyabje Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. After that time, he served the lineage in a variety of posts in Asia and the United States before being sent to KTD in 2018 by His Holiness Gyalwang Karmapa.
