The Boite and Melbourne Hindustani Classical Music Society collaborate to present a seminar in song on Tuesday 10th March, 7pm at Kew Courthouse.Featured on the evening will be visiting Hindustani classical singer Kalapini Komkali, local Macedonian singer Lidija Janevska, and Jazz singer Kate Vigo, facilitated by local singer and choir leader Lloyd O'Hanlon. This will be a fascinating evening for lovers of song. It’s an opportunity to hear from three experts about diverse vocal styles, why they sing, and what they sing about. Vd. Kalapini Komkali is widely recognised as one of the finest classical vocalists of her generation, endowed with a wholly original, melodious and rich voice. She is the daughter and disciple of the legendary Pandit Kumar Gandharva and was also trained by her illustrious mother, Vd. Vasundhara Komkali, inheriting both the technique and grammar of the art along with a deep capacity for creativity and reflection. Apart from performing, she has organised music festivals across major cities of India. In recognition of her contribution to Indian classical music, she was awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2023 by the Government of India.
