This is becoming a bit of a habit, but not all habits need breaking! The Blackheart Orchestra is returning to The Lantern, bringing their ethereal, folky/electronic/progressive music back to Sheffield. Their performances in 2023 and 2024's sell-out shows were phenomenal. They filled our auditorium with such wonderful sounds as Rick and Chrissy crisscrossed each other to create their music. It was a mesmerising show, an aural delight.Book early to avoid disappointment!
The evening will be opened with sets from Foxpalmer (touring with The Blackheart Orchestra) and local singer/songwriter Mike Simms.
The Blackheart Orchestra is officially the smallest orchestra in the world. Two people playing 13 instruments between them, Chrissy Mostyn and Rick Pilkington draw on their backgrounds in rock, folk, electronica and classical music to create a unique sound frequently compared to early Pink Floyd, Portishead and Kate Bush as well as contemporary composers such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass. Described as an ”Avant garde musical utopia” they perform in their ‘musical space station’ of instruments including guitar, bass, percussion, mandola, piano, organ, omnichord and vintage synthesisers.
Their 2022 album Hotel Utopia went straight into the UK Rock Chart at #13, being called “Epic” by Uncut magazine and “One of the best albums of the year” by USA’s Prog Rock Central. Single If You Tolerate This made #22 in the iTunes chart, and Chrissy Mostyn was voted in the Top 5 World Female Vocalists in Prog Magazine’s Readers’ Poll

Foxpalmer is the stage name of Fern McNulty - singer, songwriter and guitarist, a London based artist with a unique blend of rock, Americana style folk and lush indie, their sound striking and captivating as it is different.
From opening for chart topping acts such as Scottish Pop Artist Sandi Thom indie rockers Dodgy, Bluetones frontman Mark Morris as well as The Undertones this May 2025.

Mike Simms is a Sheffield based singer songwriter playing uplifting acoustic music. With local gigs, including supporting Mike And The Mechanics, he continues to delight audiences.
