The Birth of Purpose

The Center for Deep Self Design is honored to collaborate with acclaimed author and groundbreaking Internal Family Systems (IFS) consultant and teacher Robert (Bob) Falconer for a trilogy of live half-day workshops. The second workshop in the series, The Birth of Purpose, will guide you in discovering authentic meaning and purpose that emerge from within, rather than being shaped by outside influences.

In a culture saturated with technology and distraction, many of us are feeling a crisis of meaning. But meaning is crucial to our humanity and vitality. Without a clear sense of it, we become vulnerable to boredom, nihilism, or despair—states of the psyche that can weaken or even destroy creativity, imagination, and dreams...our very life-force.

Much can perish in the absence of meaning, so a commitment to seek and sustain meaning is a radical, even defiant, act. When suffused with meaning and purpose, not only do we become less easy to manipulate and control, we also become courageous and clear about what we stand for. A life suffused with meaning, therefore, is not a frill. It is central to our wholeness and well-being.

This second workshop in our trilogy weaves didactics with guided meditations and breakout experiences to connect you to the direct source of insight and inspiration that gives birth to meaning. We'll summon your intrinsic power to navigate that ongoing road toward a more meaningful, purposeful life.

After this learning experience, you will have:

1. a practical understanding of what an aligned, authentic, deeper Self really means
2. a reliable way to determine if you're operating from that authentic Self (or not)
3. Greater confidence in how to navigate your way back to center when you're thrown out of inner alignment by external circumstances
4. practices that support you in reconnecting with your authentic Self when challenges arise on your path to a more meaningful life
5. insight into the distinctions between a superficial or socially-imposed Purpose and your unique, more resonant Purpose
6. a sense of how Purpose can unfold without grasping or effort

Robert (Bob) Falconer is one of the most seasoned and sought-after practitioners of a psychotherapeutic model now exploding in popularity called Internal Family Systems (IFS). In 2017, Bob co-authored with the founder of the IFS model, Richard (Dick) Schwartz, and has learned from and trained with Dick for decades.

Bob is now focused on expanding the edges of IFS, placing it in a multicultural, historical and consciousness-expanding context. His 2023 book, , addresses energies and influences we find in our minds that are not part of our personal psychological systems. This book leads the Western reader to another paradigm-shattering realization: that we are not separate from a vast field of invisible others and, in fact, our minds are permeable. This can be understood as a natural 'porosity of mind' and it will be the theme of Bob's second workshop in our trilogy. To help us navigate these new, sometimes startling realities of our psychic structure, Bob most recently published a collection of quotations and short stories called .

The Center for Deep Self Design (CDSD) is what’s called a third place—a creative and contemplative space that bridges life and work, enhancing and replenishing both.
