The Victoria Military Music Festival Society is hosting a celebration of our musical heritage conceived in the style of a trade fair. This opens the door for young people with musical interests to enter a world of musical possibilities they may not know exists.
The sights and sounds of music tradition and history will be on full display at “the Bay Street Music Project” on October 19th from noon to 4pm. Music lovers of all ages are invited to enjoy an array of information booths musical performances and interactive activities.
Band and ensemble performances will occur throughout the afternoon featuring both military and civilian bands. This is an opportunity for the audience to listen to and meet members of the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, the 5th (BC) Field Regiment Band the Canadian Scottish Regiment Pipes and Drums Castel Cary Celtic Band Chiefs and POs Band Cowichan Pipes and Drums. Also enjoy a performance by renowned organist Steven Benson with a guest appearance by Pipe Major Roger McGuire.
The Bay Street Armoury is home to the 5th (BC) Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery and the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s). Both museums will be open to the public. There will be historical instruments on display. For example the bagpipes of Piper James Richardson who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his brave actions in the First World War.
