Barter Theatre’s popular touring company, The Barter Players, are back with an adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s beloved story, “The Ugly Duckling.” The Barter Players will give two performances of “The Ugly Duckling” on Saturday, Feb. 22nd, 1 p.m. at Lee Theatre in Pennington Gap, and 7 p.m. at Lyric Theater in St. Paul. When a strange egg shows up in Mama Duck’s nest and hatches, a very ugly duckling is born. After many failed attempts to fit in, the ugly duckling sets out on a journey to find his true place in the world. He soon realizes that he must learn to love himself before he can discover who he really is. “The Ugly Duckling” is based on the tale by Hans Christian Anderson and was adapted for the stage by Catherine Gray.
The Barter Players are a group of professional artists who perform world-class theatre for young people. They believe in theatre that awakens the imaginations of the most exciting, most participatory audience in the world: kids. Barter Player performances focus on what brings out bravery in all of us, and shows never talk down to the audience.
