Born in the shadows of late-’90s Johannesburg, The Awakening has carved an enduring legacy in the global gothic underground. Helmed by the prolific Ashton Nyte — singer, multi-instrumentalist, author, and provocateur — the project has grown into a shape-shifting sonic force, fusing gothic rock, darkwave, post-punk, and industrial into a catalogue of over 300 songs. From festival stages in Europe and the US to collaborations with legends of the genre, The Awakening’s cult status has only deepened with time.
Now, armed with their acclaimed self-titled 12th album — and video singles clocking millions of views — The Awakening emerges from the haze to reclaim their native soil. This is more than a tour. It’s a resurrection.
Joining them is BLVD HVNNY, the spectral alter ego of Cito — a cinematic descent into gothic electronica and trip-hop noir. With award-winning visuals, stirring reinterpretations (including a chart-topping version of The Weeping Song), and a debut album soaked in shadow, BLVD HVNNY conjures a world both haunted and heartbreakingly human.
