About this Event
The Aurora Ensemble is a formerly Boston-based musical ensemble specializing in historic music from Scandinavia and Northern Germany. Join us on January 18 for our Minnesota debut!
The Augsburg Book of Miracles (Augsburger Wunderzeichenbuch) is a 16th century manuscript containing astounding illuminations of miraculous happenings from the Bible and from European legends. Augsburg being the ancestral homeland of our ensemble's namesake, Swedish composer Maria Aurora von Konigsmarck, musical selections were inspired by the miracles from this manuscript.
This concert will also feature the United States premiere performance of Swedish composer Augusta Aurora Wrangel (1658-1699)'s sacred cantata "Ich armer," set to a brilliant poem by Tietze.
The illuminations will be on display along with a presentation on Augusta Aurora Wrangel and the female Swedish composers of the court of Queen Ulrika Eleonora.
This concert is free admission due to a generous grant awarded by the East Central Regional Arts Council.
