About this Event
The Athlone Film Festival will have eight stellar short films screened from Ireland and abroad in the renowned IMC cinema Athlone. After the screening will be our famous panel discussion with the filmmakers and teas and coffees are included.
This will be our largest programme to date! Which means we'll be running things slightly different this year. There will be a short intermission in the middle for ten minutes and a slightly shorter panel discussion and no audience QnA, but audience members are encouraged to stay for tea and coffee and meet the filmmakers afterwards.
The eight films this year in no particular order:
REM directed by Laura Masterson
A stop motion and 2D animated short film. When a strange substance threatens to disturb our protagonist's sheltered comfort she must travel through her own subconscious to answer the question: is growing up really that bad?
John Gunning: Big In Japan directed by Nicky Larkin
A documentary telling the story of an Irishman who went to Japan and became sumo wrestler.
Shelter directed by Leah Egan, Sara Ryan
Three women thrown together by world events forge a meaningful connection. Forced beyond the spoken word through the unifying lens of a child, they find shared humanity, resilience and strength.
The Death Notice of Eamon McCarty directed by Aaron Chalke

Gan Canny directed by Lou Burns, Aaron Burns
