About this Event
Pysanky are decorative eggs originating from Ukraine but practiced in a number of Slavic nations. These eggs are covered in melted wax and dipped in dyes repeatedly to create their design. Each egg is unique and traditionally tells a story utilizing visual motifs such as spiders for protection, wheat for a good harvest, and hearts for love. Even the way an egg is divided and the colors used can be symbolic. Modern practitioners of the art form incorporate this and new designs, creating unique pysanky for them. Join instructor Alexandra Sarette in creating Pysanky or your own and learning about their history. Each student will leave with 2-3 eggs, a zine on the history of pysanky, a kistka (the specialized tool needed to add wax) as well as the skills required to create this art form at home.
Instructor Alexandra Sarette has been a long time practitioner of making pysanky begining in her early childhood practicing alongside her Babcia. This spark has retained her into adulthood as she is facinated with the art of storytelling.
