The Art of Fugue" wurde in den USA als das "sinnlichste Bach-Erlebnis aller Zeiten" bezeichnet. Die Performance erforscht Themen und Definitionen von Schönheit und die beharrliche menschliche Suche nach ihrer Existenz unter dunklen Umständen. Die 1982 gegründete Bach Society Huoston begann mit der Aufführung von Bach -Kantaten in der Vesper am Sonntagabend. Unter der Leitung des verstorbenen Robert Lynn, gründete die Gesellschaft ein Ensemble, das auf historische Aufführungspaktiken spezialisiert ist. 2013 übernahm Rick Erickson die Leitung. Unter ihm trat der Bach Chor 2017 und 2023 auf dem Leipziger Bachfest auf, und war damit der erste professionelle eingeladene amerikanische Chor beim Bachfest. In celebration of the 10-year anniversary of its debut in New York City, SYREN Modern Dance is thrilled to be partnering with Bach Society Houston to bring "The Art of Fugue" to the magnificent St. Marienkirche in Berlin.

Once called "the most sensuous Bach experience ever", SYREN's "The Art of Fugue" explores themes and definitions of beauty, and the persistent human search for its existence in dark circumstances. Over the past decade, the SYREN dancers have swept through sacred spaces in the United States with the resounding splendor of Bach's fugues ringing in the background, and "The Art of Fugue" has emerged as a recognizable cornerstone of SYREN's repertory.

"The Art of Fugue" (Johann Sebastian Bach) is choreographed by Kate Sutter and is performed by SYREN Company Members: Alice Chacon, Rivkins Christopher, Victoria Ellis, Alex Larson, Jessica Nolan, Lynn Peterson, and Roxanne Potes. "The Art of Fugue" will be performed on the organ by Rick Erickson and Ben Kerswell.

Founded in 1982, Bach Society Houston began by presenting Bach's cantatas in Sunday evening vespers, inspired by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Manhattan. Under the direction of the late Robert Lynn, the Society developed an ensemble based on historically-informed performance practices.

In 2013, Rick Erickson, from the Holy Trinity Bach Vespers, became the director, further elevating the ensemble. The Bach Choir has since performed at the BachFest in Leipzig in 2017 and 2023, marking them as the first professional American choir invited.

Described as the "jewel of the Houston arts and music scene," Bach Society Houston has gained international acclaim and serves as a musical ambassador through collaborations with various cultural organizations.
