About this Event
The Art of Conversation is back with a third season of artist talks, creativity, and coffee!
Introducing: Migrant Maharanis
Migrant Maharanis is a zine collective and activist community that creates zines and digital content focused on empowering South Asian voices to share their cultural experiences in a space that promotes progressive ideas, self-expression and individuality.
Shruthi Priya Balaji and Anndivya Ram from Migrant Maharanis will be having a coffee at Gorkha Eastern Beach, where they will chat about zinemaking and digital activism!
About The Art of Conversation
This project aims to highlight artists that already have a connection with East Auckland or to bring artists in to build new connections within the East Auckland arts community. Each artist will talk about their arts practice and work in their favourite local cafe. This is a free series for audiences to attend, with the hope that we can break the formal nature of artist talks and support local businesses.
All we ask is that when you attend, you purchase a hot or cold drink to support our local and independent cafes!
This season of The Art of Conversation will focus on underrepresented forms of artmaking, such as comics, animation and zinemaking with an aim to uplift diverse communities. We hope these conversations will platform alternative ways of storytelling and thinking about arts beyond traditionally Western perspectives.
While this is a free event series, there are only limited spaces available - Make sure to reserve your spot now!
This is a project funded by Arts Out East, supported by Te Tuhi and the Howick Local Board.
