About this Event
Berry Creek Garden welcomes local expert Dennis Quenneville for a special presentation on Japanese Bonsai Basics, exploring the art of creating living trees in miniature. This introductory program will cover the foundations of bonsai, including what defines a bonsai, the natural inspirations behind the practice, and the core design principles that shape these remarkable trees.
Participants will learn about classic bonsai styles, how natural forces such as wind, weather, and time influence the form of trees, and how artists recreate those patterns through pruning, shaping, and careful design. The presentation will also introduce commonly used species, soil and fertilization basics, and practical ways to begin a bonsai practice using seedlings, nursery plants, or trees from your own landscape.
Whether you are new to bonsai or interested in deepening your understanding of this centuries-old horticultural tradition, this workshop offers a thoughtful starting point grounded in observation, patience, and a deeper appreciation of nature.
Space is limited.
