The Art and Spirituality of Persian Calligraphy with Nahid Boustani

Sun, May 31

3- 5:30 pm

Cost $100

Being centered is the fundamental rule of doing calligraphy and receiving divine creativity. Leaning on the rich history of Persian calligraphy and using principles of meditation, we will enter a safe space to release tension, disconnect from the overactive mind, and enter a state of presence to receive divine creativity.

We will learn about the ergonomics of the Qalam, the chemistry of ink, the sacredness of writing (from China and Japan to the Middle of East) and master ourstrokes at the intersection of technique, spirit, and beauty. Experience bringing it all together under the force of love and presence and making it happen in one session. Set your intention to leave with a piece to be framed.

Instructor bio:

Nahid Boustani a self-taught, self-proclaimed Persian-American artist who contributes her art to the arduous practice of staying present.

She started her journey of calligraphy around 2013; which was in fact a return to an ancient art she was introduced to during her childhood. Calligraphy as a sacred art and a highly revered one_ and a contemplative and meditative practice which is known for its transformative and tranquil effects_ had a special place in her early life and upbringing.

Most of what appears in her art are poetic expressions to transfer the viewer to a dimension often lost in our busy lives hence making powerful reminders of the divine while being visually attractive.

To stay true to the ancient nature of this art, though her style stays contemporary, she only uses the ancient tools of a wooden pen and ink. She admire simplicity and the space it creates for other things to exist and be noticed.
