Bird of Prey Avian Taxidermy Workshop
Overview: Immerse yourself in the art and science of taxidermy with our three-day Bird of Prey Avian Taxidermy Workshop. Designed for both seasoned artists and curious beginners, this intensive workshop will challenge and inspire you. Under the expert guidance of Teori Shannon, you will master industry techniques specifically for processing birds of prey and work with high-quality materials to create your own taxidermy piece.

Dates: Friday 18th 19th & 20th of October
Duration: Three days
Location: Boola Bardip Museum

What You'll Learn:
Reference Recording: Documenting and preparing your specimen.
Skinning and Defleshing: Techniques for properly preparing the specimen.
Skull and Scleral Ossicles Preparation: Methods for cleaning and preserving these crucial components.
Skin Preservation: How to preserve the skin effectively for mounting.
Accurate Body Binding: Techniques tailored to the specimen you are working on.
Natural Positioning: Achieving lifelike postures for a realistic presentation.
At the end of the workshop participants will take home a finished specimen.
Materials Provided:
Tools and supplies, including borax, acetone, and formalin.
Specimens
Custom made Wooden Pedestal
What to Bring:
Pencil/pen
Notepad
Camera for process photos
Participants are encouraged to bring along a pencil/pen and a notepad and take lots of process photos throughout.
Students are welcome to bring along their own ethically sourced avian specimen (1-month prior notification required.
Due to supply restriction and cull programs, Raven specimens may not be available at the desired numbers.
In this case, alternative avian specimens will be supplied for students to learn work on,
Subject Specimens: Barn Owls, ex-rodenticide study specimens

Raven specimens may not be available due to supply restrictions; alternative specimens such as Barn Owls from ex-rodenticide study specimens will be provided.
All specimens and materials comply with Western Australian Wildlife Regulations and are ethically sourced.
