Detroit, MI – The Preservation of Jazz Monday Night Music Series continues its legacy of honoring the great voices of jazz and soul with a heartfelt evening dedicated to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. On Monday, December 8, 2025, audiences will gather at the historic Aretha’s Jazz Café for an unforgettable performance by Denise Jonson & Friends, celebrating the timeless music, spirit, and influence of Detroit’s own legend.


Hosted by Sky Covington with co-host Mike Bonner, this intimate concert experience blends music, storytelling, and community in the heart of Detroit’s cultural scene.

Showtime: 7:30 – 9:00 PM

Dnise Jonson is a powerhouse vocalist celebrated for her soulful delivery and dynamic stage presence. With a career rooted in gospel, R&B, and jazz, she has become one of Detroit’s most cherished performers. Her ability to channel both strength and vulnerability through song makes her a natural choice to honor Aretha Franklin. Accompanied by a talented ensemble of musicians, Denise Jonson & Friends bring authenticity, passion, and reverence to every performance.


About Aretha Franklin

Aretha Louise Franklin, known as the “Queen of Soul”, was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and activist. A gifted vocalist across genres, including pop, gospel, R&B, and opera, Franklin's music has been played in churches, restaurants, and at political rallies. Her 1960s hit “Respect” became an anthem for the civil rights and women's movements. Franklin was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
