As we are closing on June 30th for a 2-year renovation, this movie - a favorite of our volunteers which fueled many an out-of-control staff party - is presented free to our loyal fans as a sloppy wet kiss goodbye. To say this movie is completely whacked would only be scratching the surface of just how insane it is. There are musical numbers almost every five minutes. The elaborately imagined costumes and the set design and basically the whole premise is light years beyond weird. ...Audiences in 1980 were not very kind to this movie. At the premiere, guests were given free copies of the soundtrack, and they hated the movie so much, they started throwing the soundtracks at the screen. Golan was so distraught by how much hate the movie got, he almost jumped off a balcony to his death. Luckily, his business partner saved him and the film became the rabies-infected black sheep of cult classics.
