Local history enthusiast, Sarah Goodley will give a presentation about Stain Hill.
The long-deserted village of Stain was built on an island of glacial clay. It used to be the location of the Church of St John the Baptist, where an 11th century tombstone and 6 skeletons have been found. The site of the Moated Medieval Manor House can still be seen, with additional earthworks added as Civil War defences. Neolithic to late Bronze Age flints have been found in the area, as well as a hoard of 53 Roman coins nearby.
When the site was studied by archaeologists in 2021, they found numerous Anglo-Saxon materials, and uncovered many long-forgotten secrets of this hidden ancient settlement near Mablethorpe.
Come along to learn more about this fascinating historic site with a very long rich history.
The village hall will be open from 7pm for bar and snacks, soup and roll for £3.50.
The talk starts at 7.30pm. Raffle draw after the talk.
