The Aikido Center of Los Angeles was established by Reverend Kensho Furuya in 1974. Furuya Sensei felt that people could benefit from Japanese culture. He thought that the best way to learn and experience Japanese culture was by studying a traditional Japanese martial. Originally the Aikido Center of Los Angeles was named Hollywood Aikido Club when it was located on Vermont Avenue. When the dojo moved in 1984 to its location on Vignes Avenue in Little Tokyo, it became Aikido Institute of Los Angeles. Realizing there was a name conflict with another local dojo, Furuya Sensei changed the name to Aikido Center of Los Angeles. In 2007, the same year Furuya Sensei passed away, the dojo moved to its current location on Main Street. Today, the dojo and Furuya Sensei’s students carry on his vision of spreading Japanese culture through the traditional arts of Aikido and Iaido. Please join us for an Aikido seminar starting Friday October 18th at 6:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Our seminar will feature David Ito Sensei and other ACLA instructors as well as guest instructors from Spain, Japan and Hawaii.
Our dinner celebration is on October 19th and will start at 5:00 PM and we will have a Taiko performance by Walter Nishinaka, a Japanese dance performance by Kansuma-kai and a calligraphy demonstration by Yoshida Kuni.
