Workshop Description: The Adverse Childhood Experiences Study and Its Application to Traumatic Grief
The CDC-Kaiser Permanente adverse childhood experiences (ACE) study is one of the largest investigations of childhood abuse and neglect and household challenges and correlates it with later-life health and well-being. The conclusions found a strong graded relationship between the breadth of exposure to abuse or household dysfunction during childhood and multiple risk factors for several of the leading causes of death in adults, including increased suicide risk.
It has been said that post-vention is the best prevention of suicide. The care we give individua, ls, families, schools, and communities after a suicide loss, could prevent another suicide. There are some significant indicators that the ACE’s study overlooks in it’s attempt to predict suicidology based on a persons upbringing.
In this program, we will look at the pioneering work of Dr. Nadine Burke, and actually take the ACE’s test. I addition, we will look at various other applications the test does not explore, including toxic relationships, community trauma, foster care and adoption, and bereavement.
