DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT

Join us for our sixth 'Battle of the Street Art' on Cheshire Street on Sunday 4th September 2022 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm to witness two legendary street artists battle to create an original graffiti mural from a theme selected by Secret Art London, in only 90 minutes.

In the red corner, we have DS. David Schmidt aka ‘DS’ is a US national, UK-bred urban artist, striving to create visually attractive, mentally engaging art all wrapped up in rich colour and form. The first stencils I painted on the streets were in East London in 2002, an area heavily bombarded by some of the now ‘greats’ of the street art world. The stencils were crude black and white robots, but the art medium struck a note with me as a teenager. As far back as I can remember, my love for art was big enough to tame my hyperactive mind, with laser-like focus on a paper, creating a world of minutely detailed figures. Consequently, a move into a medium using the tool normally suited to a surgeon seemed a natural fit. Inspired and bitten by the street art bug, it wasn’t long before I finished my art education and started to focus on stencil art.

In the blue corner, battling DS, we have Otto Schade. Chilean-born Otto Schade is a contemporary urban Artist based in London since 2006. Schade is known for his surreal and at times abstract figurative paintings, drawings, and high-impact street art. The artist has developed a unique and recognisable graphic style involving twisting, interwoven “ribbons” that depict his subjects. He is also known by his Orbs, sunsets and sillouetes trying to give a message to the society. Otto has been exhibiting and painting murals internationally in Europe, America, Africa and Asia in the last 13 years.

The Battle of Street Art will be presented by our commentator, actor Raymond Rose (Woman in Black, Clash of the Moths) and his glamorous assistant "Fica Bagnata", and will take place in two 45 minute halves, with an interval.

The event will take place at 28 Cheshire Street, outside the Secret Art Gallery. We will be boarding over part of our building, and our contestants will each be given a wall, side-by-side, to create their mural. Expect a festival atmosphere, lots of audience participation and a chance to win original artworks from the competitors.

On the day of the Battle we will also be exhibiting various artworks and merchandise by DS and Otto Schade which are available for sale.

Expect a festival atmosphere, lots of audience participation and a chance to win original artworks from the competitors.

Soft drinks, ice lollies and refreshments, with plenty of vegan friendly options, will be available to purchase at the event.
